The FINANCIAL — BAKU. An Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation led by speaker Oktai Asadov will start a three-day visit to Italy on May 3, the Azerbaijani parliament said, according to RIA Novosti.
The two countries' parliamentary delegations are set to discuss "current bilateral cooperation and its prospects, development of inter-parliamentary ties, as well as exchange of experience and information," the legislature said.
In 2009 Italy was Azerbaijan's key foreign economic partner: bilateral trade turnover for last year totaled some $4 billion.
Last week Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov paid a two-day official visit to Italy. He discussed with his Italian counterpart Franco Frattini bilateral ties, regional issues and energy security.
Italian officials have repeatedly voiced their interest in natural gas deliveries from Azerbaijan via pipelines being currently designed.
