The FINANCIAL — The delicious traditional Georgian feasts and different sweet dishes eaten during New Year celebrations often causes weight gain and other health problems for people at this time of the year. Here are tips to help one get fit again.
People should start counting their calorie consumption. People should eat salads. In the first half of the day people should eat more healthy products and spend less time at the table in the second half of the day.
“You should control the size of the meal you eat. No matter how hardworking a day you have, you should periodically exercise, even if just by taking a walk or going dancing. It is quite easy to lose extra kilos that way. Drink less traditional drinks and consume more mineral water. When reducing calorie consumption, we should not forget about eating healthy food and fruits. Boiled meat and fish are also allowed but you should control the amounts,” Gavashelishvili said.
“One of the most helpful ways to lose extra kilograms is having a designated relaxation day each week. You should only eat easy vegetable soup during the day and drink juices. But it is important to remember that this should only last one day when being on a diet,” Gavashelishvili said.
“You can also eat cottage cheese 3-4 times per day, or eat only apples during the day or carrots. Cottage cheese is the best product for reducing feelings of hunger,” said Maia Gabunia, Dietitian.
Here are the calories that most of our favourite dishes include: 100 grams of fish, pork or poultry is 250 kilocalories; nuts (100 grams) – 450 kilocalories; sweeties and cakes – minimum 600 kilocalories; honey (100 grams) – 300 kilocalories; khachapuri (100 grams) – 280-285 kilocalories; dough (100 grams) – 160 kilocalories.
“I would like to advise people to be actively engaged in different sports activities. Sport gets rid of any accumulated stressful emotions. Don’t smoke cigarettes, and eat more healthy products,” Gabunia declared.
“The best physical exercise is running, swimming and walking in the evenings. In recent times dancing has also become one of the most popular and enjoyable ways of losing extra weight,” Gabunia said.
To get rid of extra kilograms physical trainer Keti Khatiashvili advises aqua aerobics and anti-cellulite massages.
“The effectiveness of the exercises depends on their intensiveness and the weight of the individual. Generally a person needs moderate and adequate physical exercise and balanced nutrition to stay healthy. The main point is that physical exercise should be suited to a person’s individual physical condition and should be done as part of a regular regime. After a regime of intensive exercise it is very harmful to suddenly give it up and this will reflect negatively on a person’s health,” Khatiashvili said.
Dietary nutrition must not cause a lack of vitamins. Intensive exercising will raise the deficit in monotonous diets. Choosing the right diet means having food that is of good value and is not causing an increase in weight or any other problems. A strict diet should be tailored individually and only by a doctor.
According to Maka Korinteli, in order to have enough healthy nutrition, a person should eat 3 times a day as this is a very important formula. A person should also ideally eat about half a kilo of fruit every day.
“The main principles of healthy nutrition are the right liquid regime with mineral water, green tea without sugar, sweet tea, coffee and juices which are perceived as food by our body. A grownup person who weighs 70-75 kilograms should consume 2 litres of liquid in winter and 3 litres or more in summer. Food during the day should be taken at equal intervals of 3 or 4-5 hours. It’s not recommended to have food after 7-8 o’clock in the evening,” said Rusudan Mermanishvili, dietitian.
