The FINANCIAL — “Cosmetics, accessories and perfume are the things I most like to get for Christmas. Last New Year I received as a gift a ticket to travel to Europe and this was tremendously exciting,” says Natia Gotsadze, PR Manager of TBC Bank.
“I would love to be given some cosmetics and perhaps a one week trip to Dubai as I need some sun and relaxation. I would also like an invitation to a New Year’s Eve celebration,” says Lika Mikautadze, Head of PR, Retail Trade Network Populi.
“For Christmas I would like to travel to Prague, a new Blackberry mobile phone and cosmetics. Last year I received many gifts from my friends and family members and also from some different companies,” says Ella Karapetian, Director of the company Business Travel Com.
Mzia Sharashidze, PR Manager of company Redix, says that she has already been promised a 1 week Christmas trip to Paris from her husband.
According to last year’s study by The FINANCIAL, pets are N1 in the list of the top ten gifts people didn’t wanted to receive.
Allergies and the extra responsibility are the main reasons why pets are such unpopular gift for Christmas. Candies and sweets were in second place in the top 10. The FINANCIAL’s interviewees said that you won’t surprise anyone with sweets as there is an abundance of them over the holidays anyway.
Flowers at Christmas were also named amongst the most useless, unwanted Christmas gifts.
“I will probably give high quality Swiss chocolate imported by Populi as gifts for Christmas to my friends and family members this New Year. I spend about GEL 200 to 500 when buying gifts for Christmas,” Mikautadze says.
“I will choose Christmas Tree decorations, different candles and toy tigers to give as presents to my family members and friends. I usually spend about GEL 300 when buying gifts for the New Year,” says Natia Khabeishvili, PR manager of PSP.
“I actually like to give presents very much. Last New Year I received my favourite perfume, one that I wasn’t able to buy in Georgia, which was a great present. For this New Year, I haven’t yet decided what gifts I will choose as presents, but some of them I have already bought. I actually start preparing for Christmas from November,” says Ia Gogoladze, Advertising Manager of Elite Electronics.
According to Gogoladze she spends about GEL 100 or more on buying presents. She doesn’t plan her budget for the New Year beforehand.
Nearly all of the people interviewed by The FINANCIAL say that they have already started to feel the spirit of New Year.
“I am already in the New Year mood and this is because of the special New Year Decorations in Tbilisi’s city centre streets. Also there is quite a big New Year campaign on in Elite Electronics. We actually start preparing for New Year in November,” says Gogoladze.
“I am looking forward to New Year and can’t wait till it arrives,” says Mzia Sharashidze.
“Hopefully I will spend the New Year in Bakuriani, because it is what I have been looking forward to for a long time,” says Khabeishvili, from PSP.
