The FINANCIAL — Another round of bilateral political consultations was held between the Foreign Ministry of Georgia and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation in Bern, on 27 April 2015. Deputy Foreign Minister Gigi Gigiadze headed the Georgian delegation whereas the Swiss delegation was led by Deputy State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Georges Martin.
Discussions focused on a broad spectrum of issues including both bilateral relations and multilateral co-operation, according to MFA Georgia.
Gigi Gigiadze thanked the Swiss side for the Swiss Government’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as for successful development co-operation. Special attention was paid to the possibilities of strengthening co-operation in such areas as inter-regional contacts, economy, energy, business, environmental protection, education, others. Members of the Swiss delegation expressed their interest in Georgia’s role and potential in carrying out the on-going and planned regional energy and transport projects.
The sides exchanged their views regarding the existing situation and challenges facing the region. Special emphasis was placed on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories as well as on the Geneva International Discussions. Talking points also included aspects of co-operation between Georgia and the Swiss Confederation.
Within the framework of his visit to Bern, Deputy Foreign Minister Gigi Gigiadze met Head of Switzerland-Georgia Friendship Group Filippo Lombardi and Head of the Political Affairs Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Arthur Mattli.
