(Tbilisi,Georgia) Ertkhel Shua Kalakshi (Once upon a time downtown), a Georgian comedy by Night Show Studio is leading box office sales at Tbilisi cinemas.
As well as Ertkhel Shua Kalakshi, one of the most popular films is No Strings Attached featuring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. According to Davit Mirstkhulava, Marketing Manager of Rustaveli and Amirani cinemas, they are going to decrease the prices of their tickets and offer their visitors some special discount cards.
“Ertkhel Shua Kalakshi is the most popular film at our cinemas at the moment. Together with No Strings Attached, Garigeba – another Georgian film, is one of the most viewed. We only recently offered Georgian films to our customers. We just started showing Black Swan and No Strings Attached, which has become quite popular,” Mirtskhulava said.
“Despite the fact that Black Swan was available on the internet, there are high ticket sales for the film at our cinemas. This film is being viewed by many visitors at our cinemas. Black Swan was screened at Tbilisi cinemas a bit later, because this film wasn’t for rent in any other countries besides in the USA. Only after the Oscars ceremony was this film available for rent. After the Oscars the cost of this film would have increased itself and only after the ceremony was the film available to rent in different parts of the world. We will not be offering any other Oscar winning film in the nearest future,” Mirtskhulava said.
Most of the people interviewed by The FINANCIAL complain about the fact that they have no opportunity to see new films on time in Tbilisi cinemas.
“I don’t know the reason why but at our cinemas mostly old films are screened. If any new film appears worldwide, Georgians have to wait several months to see it on the big screen. I think Georgian cinemas offered better films two or three years ago whereas unfortunately nowadays we have a smaller choice,” said Baqar Abuladze, 26.
“I love watching films, mostly in the cinema, but in recent times we have only been offered Georgian films so I prefer to stay home and watch foreign films on the internet. I don’t like Georgian films and that’s why I never go see Georgian films in the cinema, so I wish we had more choice to watch modern foreign films,” said Eka Devidze, 22.
“I will not spend money on tickets to watch Georgian films in the cinema. Unfortunately we are almost only offered Georgian films whereas it would be better if new, world famous ones would be available in the cinemas. I often go to the cinema to watch new cartoons with my young child, so I can’t wait until the film Tangled (Rapunzel) 3D is screened,” said Ketevan Abashidze, 28.
According to the Marketing Manager of Rustaveli and Amirani, on 24 March they will be offering customers Battle Los Angeles and the cartoon Rango featuring Jonny Depp.
“For March 17 we will be offering audiences the cartoon Tangled. My Dad’s Girlfriend and Mars Needs Moms 3D will soon be appearing in our cinemas too,” Mirtskhulava said.
“We are going to offer our visitors some discounts. We are working on creating special discount cards. We have a Zoom day on Tuesday, when members of the club Zoom can buy one ticket and get an additional ticket free. We also have some different kinds of competitions on facebook,” Mirtskhulava said.
“Recently we arranged a competition to support the cartoon Tangled (Rapunzel) on facebook. We took photos of little girls dressed as different Disney princesses and in terms of the competition we offered different prizes to the winners. We have a photo competition being held in a Black Swan theme. Our facebook friends can send us ballet-themed photos and for those receiving the most Likes they will receive an original poster of Black Swan and two tickets to see the film,” Mirtskhulava said.
According to Mirtskulava, most of their visitors’ ages start from 12 to 26. He says that at the moment they are working on decreasing ticket prices.
“Despite the fact that prices are increasing on different products we are going to decrease the cost of tickets. We are going to decrease prices for cartoons mostly. We will also offer special promotional prices to students and schoolchildren,” Mirtskulava said.
