The FINANCIAL — IRVINE, Calif., May 23, 2011 — Broadcom Corporation, a global innovation leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced the expansion of its EEE portfolio with three new switch solutions for home and small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) networking applications.
Along with Broadcom® Intelligent Power Management (IPM) technology, the new EEE devices adapt to the physical conditions of the network, lowering power consumption by 70 percent or more when the network is active and up to 95 percent during down time.
"As energy costs continue to climb and environmental impact remains top of mind for many organizations, energy efficient networking can have a significant impact on the bottom line while also reducing carbon footprint", commented Ed Redmond, Senior Director of Connectivity, Processor & Security Solutions, "Broadcom continues to drive innovation in communication technology through its leadership and development of energy efficient solutions that increase overall performance of the network while significantly reducing power consumption."
Broadcom continues to drive innovation in enabling green networks with the industry's broadest portfolio of Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) devices that significantly reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions. It is estimated that over 150 million metric tons of CO2 are used to power IT equipment with a global price tag of approximately $16 billion per year. Broadcom's award-winning proprietary AutoGrEEEn™ could help reduce CO2 emissions in the U.S. alone by up to 2.85 million metric tons.
Broadcom's intelligent power management (IPM) technology allows the new devices to extend the 802.3az EEE capability to cover any legacy non-EEE compliant devices.
