The FINANCIAL — According to Civil Georgia, EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) said “some bullets fell close to the mission personnel” when “heavy shooting” erupted at the Abkhaz administrative border on November 15.
“It was not clear whether they were aimed at intentionally, but this action is unacceptable, the EUMM is an armed civilian mission,” EUMM said in a statement on November 16.
Incident occurred when European monitors arrived close to the village of Pakhulani on the Georgian side of administrative border to investigate a shooting incident there that took place shortly before and which killed one Georgian policeman.
“The incident is being investigated by the Georgian authorities, but since it occurred in the immediate vicinity of the administrative boundary line, the EUMM calls on the de facto Abkhaz authorities to also investigate what happened and share the results with EUMM and the Georgian authorities,” EUMM said.
The statement also says that the mission “condemns in the strongest terms” the killing of the Georgian policeman in the vicinity of the Abkhaz administrative border on November 15.
