The FINANCIAL — The Cabinet of Ministers intends to return ownership of unprofitable coal mines to the state.
The media relations department of the Cabinet of Ministers’ secretariat announced this, citing a statement that Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko made during a visit to the Novovolynska coal mine (Volyn region).
According to the announcement, Tymoshenko said that the government also intended to support private coal mines that have efficient owners.
At the same time, Tymoshenko said that the government did not intend to privatize the profitable coal mines presently owned by the state.
«We definitely do not plan to privatize the large … coal mines that are giving Ukraine this black gold,» Tymoshenko said.
According to her, Ukraine has examples of successful and extremely unsuccessful privatization of enterprises, including coal mining enterprises.
Tymoshenko stressed that the best coal mines in Ukraine have already been privatized.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Coal Industry Ministry stated in April that ownership of private coal mining enterprises could be returned to the state if the enterprises made such requests.
