The FINANCIAL — The Cabinet of Ministers ordered the National Agency for Efficient Use of Energy Sources to work out jointly with the Ministry of Industrial Policy a project-design documentation for the experimental production of biodiesel of microalgae before 2010, reads the Cabinet directive No. 384 issued on April 8.
By this document the government adopted a plan of measures for realization in 2009 prior activities in the sphere of energy efficiency and energy saving.
The Agricultural Policy Ministry was ordered to perform research and development work and design the technologies for the production of diesel biofuel based on ethyl oil ether, oil-bearing crops, and also research and development and design and testing of upgrade and adjustment of diesel engines used in agricultural machines for running on biofuel.
Apart from this, the Agricultural Policy Ministry together with the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences must prepare by 2010 recommendations for agro-industrial enterprises for choosing machines and equipment meant for growing, harvesting, processing and storage of rapeseeds and other agricultural raw materials required for the production of biofuel.
The Housing and Utilities Ministry and the Regional Construction and Development Ministry were directed to draft a law "On energy efficiency of buildings", a project of the national heating-supply strategy.
The Energy Efficiency Agency is obliged also in 2009 to work out draft Cabinet act on mandatory co-ordination with the agency for innovation and investment projects, concerning the use fuel and energy resources.
Currently Ukraine does not produce biofuel of algae.
Standard projects for the production of fuel of this kind of raw materials supposes construction of complexes for growing microalgae in bio-reactors with subsequent production of oil.
Then biodiesel, cake and glycerin are produced of oil.
This fuel is meant for use in diesel combustion engines as a replace for fuel made of oil.
The energy-carrying potential in microalgae is 8-25 times higher than that of palm oil and 40-120 times than rapeseed oil.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the state concern for spirits and liquor industry Ukrspyrt has started industrial production of biofuel 'Bio-100' at the Lokhvytsia distillery in Poltava region.
