The FINANCIAL — On 11 May 2016, on the sidelines of the visit of Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani to Canada, another round of the political consultations between the Georgian and Canadian Foreign Ministries was held, according to MFA of Georgia.
In the frames of the consultations, the two delegations discussed the priorities on the agenda of bilateral and multilateral co-operation, exchanged the information on the security environment in the region and the world as a whole. The Canadian side was provided with the detailed information on the progress Georgia has achieved on its path to the European integration. It was underlined that the successful completion of the visa liberalisation process is yet another step towards Georgia’s European integration.
During the political consultations, special emphasis was put on the preparations for the NATO Summit in Warsaw. The Canadian side expressed its readiness to continue supporting Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Georgia’s contribution to strengthening of the Euro-Atlantic security, inter alia, to the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan was particularly underlined.
The two delegations focused on the priority directions of co-operation in the sphere of trade, economy, culture and education and underlined the need to exchange high-level visits.
Talking points also included the business and investment environment in Georgia that encourages the attraction of Canadian investments to Georgia. In this context, special emphasis was put on the need to exchange the trade and business delegations and to enhance co-operation between the relevant agencies of the two countries. The Canadian side expressed interest in participation of the Canadian companies in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum. David Zalkaliani updated the Canadian delegation on the Georgian Prime Minister’s four-point reform plan.
In the frames of the consultations, the two delegations discussed multilateral co-operation and underlined the need to discuss the issues on the Georgian-Russian conflict within the format of the international organisations.
The Canadian side reaffirmed the support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
