Cartier and Expo 2020 announce collaboration to create Women‘s Pavilion

The FINANCIAL — Expo 2020 Dubai will have Women’s Pavilion to celebrate female change-makers all over the world. Cartier announced a major with the world fair to create a women’s pavilion. This collaboration has been endorsed by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations under-secretary-general and executive director of UN Women, and vocal human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, who actually voices the exhibit itself.

The theme for Expo 2020, which is to run until April 10, 2021, is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.” While the exposition will be composed of national pavilions, a separate area called the Sustainability District is to feature thematic presentations like Cartier’s, although the watch and jewelry maker’s pavilion is expected to be the only one sponsored by a luxury brand. Cartier said it was creating its Women’s Pavilion in collaboration with the Expo and with the support of Reem Ebrahim Al-Ashimy, the Expo’s director general and the Emirati minister of state for international cooperation. It reflects how Cartier is incorporating social and environmental policies into its corporate strategy, Mr. Vigneron said. “Sixty percent of our clients and staff are women, so our connection to women’s issues is very strong,” he said, according to The New York Post.

Offering a look at the role women play in society, the pavilion promises to offer thought-provoking new perspectives while highlighting achievements both past and present. Visitors will be taken on a journey of education to celebrate achievements by women that have helped shape the world today, while sparking dialogue about how best to tackle problems in the future. The UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and director general of Expo 2020 Dubai bureau, Reem Al Hashimy explained: “Gender equality is an essential pillar of all sustainable development – the foundation on which the health and prosperity of communities and, indeed, humanity at large is built, as reported by The National.

During the six-month expo, the Women’s Pavilion will create a space of expression designed to foster dialogue among a diverse community of artistes, scientists, thought leaders, politicians, entrepreneurs, business leaders and more. Reem Al Hashimy, said: “The Women’s Pavilion highlights the crucial roles that women have long played as linchpins of their communities and drivers of economies, and underscores Expo 2020 Dubai’s firm commitment to empowering all women to drive their own development and create a better future for us all,” Khaleej Times wrote. 

Cyrille Vigneron, president and CEO of Cartier International, said: “Highlighting the impact women of all cultures have had across time, focusing on both known and lesser-known achievements, the Women’s Pavilion weaves a strong inspiration for generations to come,” MENAFN reported.

The first expo to be held in the MENASA region, it will include pavilions from 192 nations, with up to 25 million visits expected during the show. The Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has teamed up with Emirates Foundation to recruit around 1,000 Saudi student volunteers to work at its pavilion from October 2020-April 2021, Gulf Business wrote.
