The FINANCIAL — According to Dow Jones, vehicle sales in China rose 6.7% in 2008 to 9.38 million units, the official Xinhua News Agency reported on January 12, citing the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
Sales were lower than the 10 million forecast by CAAM, a semi-official industry group, at the start of last year. In 2007, China's auto sales rose 21.8% to 8.79 million units.
It was the first non-double-digit growth rate in China's auto sales since 1999, Xinhua said.
