The FINANCIAL — An ecological farming cooperative was launched in the Chernigov oblast of Ukraine last week, with support from the EU-funded project “Clima East: Conservation and sustainable use of peatlands”.
The “Chernigovshchyna ecological” union of agricultural service cooperative is in Kukshyn village, in the Nizhyn rayon. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from UNDP, which is implementing the project, as well as local officials.
Thanks to this union, 23 new jobs will be created and more than 150 families directly benefit from its activities, receiving a fair price for milk. In addition, it aims to help restore and maintain the natural balance in the peatlands, thereby reducing the health risks of negative climate change impacts for 7,000 inhabitants and the risk of catastrophic fire in 2,800 ha of peatlands, EU Neighbourhood Info reported.
The Clima East project, supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation in ENP East countries and Russia, supports partner countries so that they are better equipped for greenhouse gas emission reductions and better prepared to deal with the impacts of climate change.
