The FINANCIAL — The latest data of the National Statistics Office of Georgia shows that import of condoms is increasing per annum in Georgia.
The total amount of investment in import increased from 350,000 USD to 450,000 USD in 2010 from the same period of 2009. Sale of Viagra is also on the rise. Georgian pharmacy company GMP has started production of a Georgian analogue – Sildenafil.
Condoms are imported from over 10 countries including Germany, Ukraine, Armenia, France, Turkey etc. The unconditional leader among all importer countries is Germany with 300,000 USD investments by 2010.
Condoms are sold under several names and of different qualities in Georgian pharmacy chains. PSP says that they sell about 70,000-80,000 condoms during three month, in one quarter of the year. The most popular in the pharmacy chain is Masculan. Out of the 80,000 condoms sold almost 60,000 are Masculan.
In comparison to PSP, GPC named Vitalis condoms the lead brand in their chain. The sales figure of Vitalis in the GPC chain amounts to 6,000 per month.
“I always advise my patients to use a condom, as this is the best means of self-defence for any occasion,” said Beroshvili. “Sildenafil Citrate, named Viagra, can be prescribed for absolutely healthy people as well, if they want to become even more sexually active. The medicine must be prescribed by a doctor. Buying it without a prescription is unsafe. Only a doctor can define which dose an individual patient needs.”
Muscular Dystrophy, which affects 1 in 6,000 people, is a disease that causes the progressive breakdown of muscle tissue, including the heart. Duchenne and Becker are the most common types of the disease. Researchers were able to decrease the levels of a molecule that breaks down the tissue by giving dystrophic mice the drug.
Viagra, which is a pharmaceutical drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension, made a revolution in sexology 13 years ago in Georgia, says sexologist Gia Beorishvili.
Somehow, due to the prevailing mentality, Georgian people with complexes or low sexual education still try to avoid visits to the sexologist for the purpose of helping them improve their sex life. In spite of this Beroshvili says that the number of his male patients is permanently increasing in comparison to female ones. Although Viagra isn’t only for men, he has never prescribed Viagra for women due to the low number of his female patients.
“10-15 years ago nobody could imagine or believe that Sildenafil Citrate, sold as Viagra, Camagra, Sinagra etc, could solve their sexual problem,” added Bereshvili. “The experience showed that Viagra is a very efficient medicine. That’s why I regularly prescribe Viagra or other substitute medicines for treatment of my patients who have the need for it.”
According to the data of pharmacy company PSP about 8,000 packages of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra, Camagra) were sold in their chain during the last three month. Meanwhile the largest amount of Sildenafil Citrate sold, about 600 packages, is Viagra. Its prices start from about 10 USD. Viagra is imported from France, from the world’s largest pharmaceutical company Pfizer. As for the other 2,000 packages, they are Camagra, which have four pills in one package. It’s imported from India, from Pharmaceutical Company Ajanta.
GPC, another pharmaceutical company of Georgia, says that they sell on average 200 packages of Viagra per month.
GM Pharmaceuticals started to produce the medicine in Georgia about three month ago. It’s sold under the name Sildenafil. Sildenafil is the substance citrate of the medicine itself.
“We have sold only 300 packages of Sildenafil, because we have only recently started to produce the product,” said Marika Diasamidze, Brand Manager of GMP. “Our customers aren’t informed about the medicine yet. After a period of time our product will be as popular as Viagra, because it has the same substance and is equally efficient.”
Whether due to the reduced cost of Viagra or the ability to order Viagra-type products online, U.S. sales of erectile dysfunction drugs blossomed in 2010, International Trade reported.
During the first 11 months of 2010, the United States shipped 709 million USD worth of erectile drugs including Viagra to a vast array of 96 countries around the globe. That figure represents a 35.9% gain over the 521.8 million USD in sales during the comparable period in 2009. The top 10 countries for U.S. Viagra exports in 2010 are Germany, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan and Belgium.
