The FINANCIAL — "Mátyás Eörsi (Hungary, ALDE) and Kastriot Islami (Albania, SOC), PACE Rapporteurs on the monitoring of the obligations and commitments by Georgia, will travel to Tbilisi next week to collect information on the ground and discuss the situation at the highest political level," Council of Europe announced.
"During their visit, as from 18 to 21 August, they are scheduled to meet President Saakashvili, the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Reintegration, the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Defence. They will also meet people displaced by the recent conflict and visit the town of Gori.
"Last week, PACE President Lluís Maria de Puig declared that human rights violations occurring during the conflict must not go unpunished. Both Georgia and Russia are members of the Council of Europe and, as such, are bound by legal obligations to resolve conflicts peacefully and respect human rights and humanitarian law.
A visit to Moscow by the PACE Rapporteurs on Russia is envisaged for later this week.
