The FINANCIAL — Some of the Georgian designers who took part in Tbilisi Fashion Week have been invited to organize showrooms in Paris.
This is as a result of TFW, which was the main attraction for Georgian elite last week. Tamuna Ingorokva, Datuna Sulikashvili, Atelie 10A and Atare were named among the favourite designers by invited fashion critics.
“We remain very positive about Tbilisi Fashion Week. It is only the beginning and it will only get better,” said Kristi Parn-Valdooa, Editor in Chief of Estonian Fashion Magazine Mood.
“Georgia is a country which is day by day becoming stronger. I think that Tbilisi Fashion Week is a great opportunity for both famous designers and newcomers,” Kristi Parn-Valdooa stated.
“I saw many pieces that I really liked and would want to have in my wardrobe,” said Judith Girard Marczak, Accessories Fashion Consultant and fashion journalist.
“I’m sure it’s possible to sell Georgian designers’ clothes in many different countries across the world. The style of Georgian women really amazed me. It was so interesting to see so many nice outfits together.”
“I have already bought some accessories created by Georgian designers. Atelie 10A, Atare, Datuna Sulikashvili, and Tamuna Ingorokva are some of the Georgians designers that we really liked,” said Matthieu Valet, CEO of No Agency in Paris. “Georgia is a very beautiful country. I like Tbilisi very much and I am so amazed with this country that I will definitely come back to visit its different, historic places.”
“Chubikas’ show was full of impressions, designed in the style of Art Fashion Show,” said Gio Gaudet, popular designer in Canada, who also served as the member of newcomers’ jury. He believes that there are many things to do in order to improve the quality of Fashion Week. “Tbilisi Fashion Week is a brand new event, so as time passes it will become better,” he said.
“Designers should improve their collections and ask for suggestions if they want to be better. I don’t like it when any fashion designer reminds me of another designer’s style. Designers should look through the history of Georgian costumes and remake some of the old styles. It’s Eastern Europe, and Georgians should acknowledge that. Not everything can be French,” Gaudet said.
Tbilisi Fashion Week took place from 20-24 November at Grato Passage, a luxury new complex to be opened in 2011 (runway shows) and the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel (showrooms and accessories exhibition). Spring-Summer 2011 fashion collections were presented by a combination of both famous Georgian designers and newcomers.
Tamuna Ingorokva, Atelie 10A, Nino Chubinishvili, Fashion house “Materia”, Salon Atare, Manana Antelidze, Nino Abesadze, George Shagashvili, Datuna Sulikashvili, Marika Kenchadze, Bicholla, Golla Zumbulidze, Ana Changiani and Tamriko Nadiradze, Gvanca Janashia, Salome Amanatishvili, Lika Aladashvili, Nino Kacharava, Mura-Mosso (Merab Kuparadze), together with 20 young designers took part in Tbilisi Fashion Week.
“It was a great great show, Georgian designers have their own style. I am in love with Tbilisi,” said Daria Altabaeca, Fashion Department Producer of L’OFFICIEL, Russia.
“It’s the second time that I’ve been to Georgia and I would live here with pleasure. Georgians are amazing; I haven’t met people like them before. I think that Georgians like fashion very much and they dress well. They have a different sense of style. I am amazed with Georgian women’s beauty and style.”
“While walking in the streets of Tbilisi, I noticed that young people are dressed very fashionably,” said Stas Veuth from Boutique Magazine. “I think that the designers participating in Tbilisi Fashion Week are very talented and highly educated. The collections shown at Tbilisi Fashion Week will be interesting for European consumers. David Sulikashvili and Tamuna Ingorokva’s collections were most interesting to me.”
“Despite the fact that summer is always colourful, my Spring-Summer collections for the next fashion show will be centred around beige, red, white and black materials,” said Georgian designer Datuna Sulikashvili.
“This was the second time I have taken part in Tbilisi Fashion Week. I think that this event does as much for designers as for Georgian models. TFW helps me represent my products to society. As time passes this event will become even more improved. Most of all I enjoyed the collections of Nino Aladashvili, Manana Antelidze, Tamuna Ingorokva and Datuna Sulikashvili,” said Anna Changiani, Georgian fashion designer.
“My favourite designer of the show was Datuna Sulikashvili, a young designer with a beautiful collection. I think he was the best,” said Tamuna Ingorokva, famous Georgian designer.
“My collection is called a Woman with Tamuna Ingorokva. It’s very sensitive, feminine and stylish. Many foreigners have already contacted me and I think I will see a boom in selling my collections. I was also offered to organize a showroom in Paris,” she said.
As Director of company Geofashion, Sopo Mamardashvili says, everything went well and organizers of the event, together with fashion designers are very content of TFW.
“Tamuna Ingorokva, George Shagashvili, Atare, Materia and Atelie have attracted special attention of our foreign guests. George Shagashvili was offered to bring his collections to Paris,” Mamardashvili says.
The FINANCIAL provided media sponsorship of TFW. Tbilisi Fashion Week will be back in Georgia’s capital in April presenting Autumn-Winter collections.
