The FINANCIAL — Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd (hereafter, Daiichi Sankyo) continues to offer its deepest sympathies to those affected by the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake.
On April 18 the company announced that, through its Matching Gifts program and other fundraising activities, the Daiichi Sankyo Group has now donated 82,328,860 yen (36,709,302 yen from employees; 45,619,558 yen from the company) to the Japanese Red Cross and other national Red Cross societies and charitable organizations around the world to assist victims of the disaster in northern Japan.
The Daiichi Sankyo Group has also contributed 100 million yen in direct donations, bringing the total amount of charitable contributions to 182,328,860 yen.
At the present time, some Daiichi Sankyo Group companies outside of Japan are still collecting donations from employees for earthquake and tsunami survivors. Once the tallying of these funds is completed, the Group companies intend to implement a Matching Gifts program like the one that was carried out in Japan, according to the company.
A program whereby a company pledges to match a fixed ratio of funds contributed by employees and then present it to the same charitable group, organization, etc.
