The FINANCIAL – According to RIA Novosti, exit polls indicate that left-wing opposition leader Danilo Turk has won the second round of presidential elections in Slovenia with around 70% of the vote, defeating the former premier Lozje Peterle.
The polling stations closed at 7.00 p.m. local time (6.00 p.m. GMT) Sunday. The turnout was 45%, and the official results will be announced November 19.
Turk, 54, is a law professor at Ljubljana University who worked as Slovenian envoy to the UN after the country of 2 million declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
