The FINANCIAL — 27.09.2018, New York – Within the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Rodolfo Péter Szijjártó .
The sides highlighted the close partnership between the two countries. David Zalkaliani thanked Péter Szijjártó for his plans to participate in the Batumi Security Conference due to be held in November of this year. Péter Szijjártó for his part reaffirmed the Hungarian Government’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The sides took special note of Hungary’s important contribution towards the implementation of the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package and its active involvement in the EUMM.
David Zalkaliani brought to the attention of his Hungarian colleague the tasks on Georgia’s European Integration agenda and Georgia’s Road Map initiative for EU integration.
The sides highly appraised the results of the Brussels Summit reaffirming that Georgia’s has all practical instruments for membership of the Alliance. Discussions focused on the difficult human rights situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. David Zalkaliani provided Péter Szijjártó with information on the Georgian Parliament’s resolution and the so called Tatunashvili-Otkhozoria list, as well as on the Georgian government’s peace policy and the Georgian side’s initiatives in this regard.
The sides also spoke about the ways to deepen co-operation in the areas of trade and economy, including through the use of government formats. Successful co-operation in the area of education was also highlighted. Zalkaliani thanked the Hungarian side for the scholarships offeredto 80 Georgian students.
