The FINANCIAL — New York -Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
Discussions focused on Georgia-Turkey strategic partnership. The Georgian side expressed its gratitude to the Turkish government for the firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its Euro-Atlantic integration path.
According to the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ankara will continue to support Georgia both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
The sides highlighted the special importance of the Georgia-Turkey High-level Strategic Cooperation Council reaffirming their readiness to meet in Ankara for the next time.
Speaking about the involvement of Georgia and Turkey in the international transit and energy projects and the key role Georgia and Turkey are playing in the development of the South Corridor, the sides placed great value on the importance of the implantation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Project. The Georgian side also welcomed the launch of the TANAP Project.
David Zalkaliani provided his Turkish colleague with information on the human rights situation in Georgia’s occupied regions. Discussions also centred on the Georgian Government’s new initiative “A step towards a better future”. David Zalkaliani thanked Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu for Turkey’s firm support of Georgia in the implementation of the non-recognition policy.
The sides reaffirmed their readiness to further co-operate both in bilateral and multilateral formats. It was Zalkaliani’s first meeting in the capacity as foreign minister with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
