Th FINANCIAL — The 2017 OSCE Mediterranean Conference was held in Palermo, on 24 and 25 October 2017. The conference which was hosted by Angelino Alfano, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, provide the participating States and Partners for Co-operation with an opportunity to exchange views on the issues posed by increased migration and refugee flows.
Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani spoke before the participants of the Confernece highlighting the importance of dealing with the challenges posed by migration and the need of keeping the safe and dignified return of refugees and internally displaced persons high on the OSCE agenda, according to MFA of Georgia.
David Zalkaliani paid special attention to the gross violations of human rights of refugees and internally displaced persons during the Russia-Georgia conflict and to the policy of ethnic cleansing pursued by the occupation regime against ethnical Georgians in the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions. Special note was taken of mass destruction of houses of ethnic Georgian in the village of Eredvi in September of 2017 as a deliberate attempt to wipe out the Georgian trace in the occupied Tskhinvali region.
