The FINANCIAL — The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and its importance in the EU-Georgia relations was one of the key issues of discussions with Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn – Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said adding that the main focus of the meeting was on the opportunities DCFTA offers to Georgia.
“We spoke about the serious potential of DCFTA to make Georgia an important partner of Europe in terms relations with eastern countries. DCFTA creates considerable opportunities for attracting investments from eastern countries. It also offers European countries a solid platform for conducting their relations with the region. It is important for Georgia to act as a gateway for relations between Europe and Far East. DCFTA also creates opportunities for the countries of close neighbourhood and Far East in such areas as industry, logistics and transport. We will do our utmost to use this potential to the full in the future. It is important that DCFTA enters the phase when we can speak about concrete deliverables” – Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
At a joint press conference held by Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Johannes Hahn, the Georgian Foreign Minister spoke about the successfulness of reforms carried out within the framework of DCFTA, in cluding appreciable result in Georgia’s private sector, increase of trade with the European Union and the fact that the EU’s share in Georgia’s trade portfolio accounts for 30 percent. According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Georgian Government’s economic policy remains focused on diversification, according to MFA of Georgia.
