The FINANCIAL — Christmas is a magical season for all no matter how old you are, and decorating a gingerbread house is always fun. Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel is offering the opportunity for everyone to take part in building a giant gingerbread house and participate in a charity action at the same time.
Guests are able to decorate the Giant Gingerbread House at the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel from Saturday 11 to Sunday 12 December from 11:00 till 19:00. Everyone can come and add their artistic touch to this year’s giant gingerbread house and donate to a good cause at the same time. Kids have already been taking part in decorating the gingerbread house and having lots of fun.
“I like being here very much, I had lots of fun. I drew a smiley face with sweets on the gingerbread house and other shaped drawings as well. I know that this event is for helping other needy children at Christmas and I am sure that they will be very happy. Next year I will definitely take part in this kind of event and I will tell my friends to come and join in as well,” said six-year-old Canon Shakra Wingey.
“My name is Olivia and I like decorating the gingerbread house very much. I will decorate this house with sweets of different shapes and I will draw a huge heart which will be very beautiful. I have already chosen the colours of sweets that I am going to use for drawing the heart,” said five-year-old Olivia.
“I wrote my name on the gingerbread house and decorated it with different, very tasty sweets. I also drew a beautiful flower and enjoyed being here very much. Lots of children have gathered here and its fun for me to play with the other children and decorate the house with sweets. My friends are having lots of fun here too. I will visit the Radisson to decorate the gingerbread house again,” said Nika Vardiashvili.
According to Rami Shakra who brought his kids to the hotel to decorate the gingerbread house, it’s a great opportunity initiated and started by the chef of the Radisson.
“It’s an opportunity for lots of people to come here, decorate this absolutely wonderful gingerbread house and at the same time contribute to charity. For the kids it’s another opportunity to realize that they need to be a part of the community and should collect toys or money for different reasons. Everybody is having an absolutely wonderful time in decorating the house,” Shakra said.
“People really appreciate the initiative of the Radisson and we hope that this event will be repeated next year. The event is so important for different reasons. Kids, by taking part in these kinds of events, start learning about social responsibility from a young age. We are teaching them that they are a part of society and some are more fortunate than others. These kinds of events at the same time help children realize how to work together,” Rami Shakra said.
The US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots are also participating in the Giant Gingerbread House charity action at the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel. Each year the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots programme collects new toys during October, November and December and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is being conducted.
“The initiator and organizer of the Gingerbread House action is George Leivadiotis, Executive Chef at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel. It was his idea to build a huge Christmas-themed gingerbread house in the hotel’s lobby where everyone is welcome to take part in decorating it. Participation is based on donations, meaning you can donate any sum possible. All proceeds go to UNICEF, who thank you for your donation, which will be able to give the less fortunate an unforgettable Christmas. We chose to participate with UNICEF in order for them to distribute the donated sum to different orphanage houses,” said Natalia Luchaninova, PR and Marketing Coordinator at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel.
“This event is very important. The children who come here are having lots of fun by taking part in decorating the gingerbread house. Kids start learning from their very childhood that they should give to others and help the needy. Children can cope with the idea that not everyone has equal opportunities. Children should study how to share things with others,” Luchaninova said.
“It’s very pleasing that children are visiting us with new toys and putting them in the Toys for Tots box. These toys will be given as Christmas presents to needy children. The interest towards this action has been high. It’s unfortunate that foreigners have been more interested in it than Georgians and as you can see most of our guests are foreigners. I hope that by the end of December though many Georgians will take part in this event as well,” Luchaninova said.
According to Luchaninova, with this event they are giving the opportunity to people to donate. The door of the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel is open for everyone. It’s not necessary to donate any particular sum; it depends on individual people’s goodwill. People are able to donate as much money as they want, there is no stated minimal sum.
“Children who otherwise would not expect this New Year to be anything special for them, will suddenly receive gifts. The main demand from Toys for Tots is to bring new, wrapped toys to put in the donations box. These toys are given to children as Christmas gifts so they should be new and not used. Collecting toys will last till the end of December in order to give kids presents for New Year,” Luchaninova said.
