The FINANCIAL — Deepak Kapoor has been elected as the new Chairman of PwC India network of entities for a three year term beginning on Jan 1, 2011.
PwC India network partners ratified the selection of Deepak, 52, by the PwC India Governance Board. The selection process, that started with nomination and short-listing, was followed by a sounding process undertaken by the Governance Board. The Chairman will have the overall responsibility for the business of the PwC India network Firms in India, representing them externally and internally, leading interactions with clients and people within the firm.
Deepak has served as Managing Director of PwC India network entities since 2007. His successor as Managing Director of PwC India will be announced in the next few weeks. Gautam Banerjee, the current Chairman who will relinquish this role on 31 December, 2010, will continue in his role as Executive Chairman of PwC Singapore and will join the PwC India Advisory Board.
"Deepak joined Price Waterhouse as an Articled Trainee in 1978 and became a partner in 1991. Prior to being appointed Managing Director for the PwC India network of entities, he served in a variety of leadership and client service roles initially as an auditor and then as an M&A professional. He led the Financial Advisory practice for more than eight years and the Telecom and Entertainment & Media practice for ten years. His experience in India and overseas encompasses multiple industries including consumer products, manufacturing, telecom, technology, healthcare and entertainment & media," PwC says.
Commenting on his appointment, Deepak said, “I am honoured that I have been chosen and gratified by the confidence that the India partners have shown in me at this challenging and exciting time for our business. The changes that we have implemented in the last two years will give our clients better access to our highly qualified resources and knowledge, and will allow us to recruit and develop the best talent. Gautam Banerjee said, “Deepak has been a very successful and committed leader of the PwC India network Firms. During his time he has built strong relationships around the PwC network as well as with clients and regulators. He has all the experience and leadership abilities needed to serve as Chairman of PwC India.”
