The FINANCIAL — Total foreign direct investments in Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011 amounted to 266,022,400 USD according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

Denmark and the Netherlands made the biggest investments overall in the 3rd quarter, while out of CIS countries, Kazakhstan and Russia led the list of biggest investors.
FDI from EU countries totalled 270,815,400 USD for the 3rd quarter of 2011, while FDI from CIS countries totalled 37,422,100 USD. From CIS countries a great amount of FDI in Georgia came from Azerbaijan with 15,475,500 USD overall. Denmark contributed the highest amount of FDI in the 3rd quarter of 2011 out of all EU countries, a sum of 99, 836,100 USD. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2011, FDI from CIS countries had increased by 6,955,200 USD in the 3rd quarter of last year.
Armenia invested 5,695,000 USD in Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011. In the 2nd quarter of last year Armenia invested 4,852,000 USD, 843,000 USD less compared to the 3rd quarter. FDI from Belarus in the 3rd quarter of last year totalled 210,500 USD while in the 2nd quarter the number was 85,900 USD, 124,600 USD less compared to the 3rd quarter.
“Kazakhstan invested 9,326,400 USD in Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011. In the 2nd quarter the amount of FDI in Georgia from Kazakhstan was 3,838,300 USD, 5,488,084 USD less,” Geostat notes.
Despite the tense political situation between Russia and Georgia, Russian investments totalled one of the highest amounts of FDI in Georgia out of all CIS countries.
“The amount of FDI in Georgia from Russia in the 3rd quarter of 2011 totalled 9,308,800 USD, while for the 2nd quarter of the year the number was 0,8413 USD higher totalling 10,150,100 USD. FDI in the country from Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2011 was 1,106,0 USD, and in the 2nd quarter – 1,103,900 USD. 1,447,200 USD of FDI came to Georgia from Kyrgyzstan in the 3rd quarter of 2011. In the 2nd quarter of 2011 the amount of FDI from Kyrgyzstan was 192,600 USD higher totalling 1,639,8 USD,” says Geostat.
According to the preliminary data of Geostat 89,897,600 USD of FDI came from the Netherlands in the 3rd quarter of 2011. In comparison, in the 2nd quarter of the year Georgia received 19,613,500 USD of FDI from the Netherlands.
“The Czech Republic invested 27,357,800 USD in Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011, while in the 2nd quarter of the year the number totalled 18,486,400 USD. 6,720,300 USD of FDI came from Germany in the 3rd quarter of 2011 while in the 2nd quarter the number was 7,403,700 USD. Greece contributed 597,800 USD of FDI in the 3rd quarter of 2011 and 527,800 USD in the 2nd quarter of 2011,” says Geostat.
“Italy was responsible for 51,800 USD of FDI in Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011, Sweden was responsible for 1,556,500 USD and the United Kingdom – 4,861,100 USD,” Geostat notes.
According to the preliminary data of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, FDI in Georgia in the economic sectors totalled 266,022,400 USD.
According to Geostat, The highest amount of FDI was made in the energy sector and totalled 86,076,700 USD as of the 3rd quarter of 2011. 28,227,100 USD of FDI was implemented in the mining and manufacturing sector, while in the 2nd quarter of 2011 the number was 29,526,100 USD. 21,529,600 USD of FDI went in to the real estate sector in Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011.
“13,486,300 USD was invested in health and social work in Georgia in the 3rd quarter 2011, while in the 2nd quarter the number totalled 1,067,700 USD. 16,487,900 USD was invested in transport and communication in the 3rd quarter 2011 while in the 2nd quarter the number was 55,956,500 USD,” claims Geostat.
“2,480,000 USD of FDI was made in the hotel and restaurant sector in the 3rd quarter of 2011 while 4,245,100 USD of FDI was implemented in the construction sector in Georgia. 5,726,500 USD of FDI was implemented in the agriculture and fishing sector,” Geostat notes.
According to Geostat 49,478,700 USD of FDI was implemented in the financial sector of Georgia in the 3rd quarter of 2011, while for the 2nd quarter the number amounted to 34,328,700 USD, 15,150,000 USD less compared to the 3rd quarter.
