The FINANCIAL — First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili announced a new electronic commerce platform of the Georgian Post which will be launched in May 2018.
The new platform will allow the local population, including small and medium businesses, to order or sell products and service via special application in Georgia as well as abroad and the Georgian Post will provide the delivery.
Dimitry Kumsishvili highlighted that the e-commerce is one of the most important tools of trade in the modern world, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
“There are many successful examples of how different companies of e-commerce have changed the consumers’ custom and behavior of purchasing. Today these companies such as ebay.com, amazon.com, Alibaba and others have become the world giants. Only on 11 November, 2017, within the 24 hours, the Chinese platform Alibaba Online Store sold the products of 25.4 billion USD. On the one hand, the e-commerce makes it easier to the business to sell its products on the global scale and on the other hand, it provides the customers a wide range of competitive options,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili said.
The First Vice Prime Minister highlighted that the e-commerce development is possible only with the proper operation of the postal services. “In this regard, launching and further development of the platform introduced by the Georgian Post is of outmost importance,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili stated.
