The FINANCIAL — First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili and the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Mikhail Rusyi, who is having an official visit to Georgia, discussed the prospects of Georgia-Belarus trade and economic relations at the meeting held today at the Government Administration.
Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze and other officials also participated in the meeting, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Dimitry Kumsishvili provided his Belarus colleague with the detailed information regarding the economic situation in the country, the 4-point plan of the Government and the relevant on-going reforms. Dimitry Kumsishvili, being the Chair of the Georgia-Belarus Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission, discussed with his Belarus counterpart the main direction of the economic cooperation between the two countries, including such sectors as bilateral trade, tourism, transport and agriculture.
Georgia-Belarus Bilateral Trade and Economic Group established upon the initiative of Prime Ministers of Georgia and Belarus, received a very positive assessment since its work already found reflection in the both economies. As it was noted, during the 9 months of 2017, the trade turnover between the two countries is increased by 24%, while the export is expanded by 50%. Number of tourists from Belarus in the 10 months of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, is increased by 28%.
The meeting also focused on the joint projects, including the import and installation of lifts produced in Belarus and their installation in Georgia and the prospect of establishing the production process in Georgia as well. In addition, the parties also discussed the prospects of deepening of the cooperation in the field of agriculture.
Within the framework of the working visit, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Mikhail Rusyi, will hold meetings with other officials of the Georgian Government and participate in the opening ceremony of the Belarussian Culture Days in Georgia.
