The FINANCIAL — Within the framework of the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council in Baku, the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Dimitry Kumsishvili held a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Berat Albayrak.
Productive and strategic cooperation in the energy sector between Georgia and Turkey was particularly emphasizes during the meeting. Special attention was drawn to the issue of the transportation of the Azerbaijan hydrocarbon to the European markets via Georgia and Turkey. In particular, it was noted that together with Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan are involved in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) projects, which are already operating successfully. It was also noted that the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion Project is almost accomplished and this project is of outmost significance for the 2nd phase of the Shah-Deniz operation, and, in general, for the development of the Southern Gas Corridor.
The Southern Gas Corridor is of great historic importance for the diversification of the gas supply as well as the further enhancement of the energy security of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey and the EU countries. Conversation also covered the trans-Caspian pipeline project, which aims to deliver the Turkmen gas to the EU markets using the transit capacities of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Prospects of further cooperation between the countries in the field of electricity, including the cross-border electricity trade mechanisms and the development of the transmission network connecting Georgia and Turkey as well as other important issues were also discussed during the meeting, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
