The FINANCIAL — “Tourism is one of the main sectors of the economy of Georgia that provides several tens of thousands of jobs which is about 180 thousand direct and indirect emplacements. Last year tourism sector generated over 2.7 billion USD in our economy,” – the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili stated following the coordination meeting of the international donor organizations and the representatives of state agencies working in the tourism sector.
The meeting was held in the Technology Park and was attended by the heads of all the state agencies that promote tourism sector development in Georgia. They introduced relevant presentations to the representatives of the international donor organizations. All the projects implemented in the sector with the support of the donor organizations were also discussed, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
“Today we have gathered to provide donor organizations with the information on the needs as well as the projects that we have in the tourism sector. We have identified the need for assistance both in infrastructural as well as the technical support. The main purpose of the meeting is to introduce our needs to the donors, and to understand the capabilities that the donor organizations have and wish to use in order to assist us in the development of the tourism sector,” – the First Vice Prime Minister noted.
The meeting was attended by representatives the Austrian Development Agency, the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ), the German Development Bank (KfW), the World Bank, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the USAID, EU Representation in Georgia, the Caucasus Nature Fund and embassies of the Czech Republic, Estonia and UK in Georgia.
The Head of the National Tourism Administration Giorgi Chogovadze, the Director of Mountain Resorts Development Company, Aleksandre Onoprishvili, as well as the representatives of National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture and other representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development attended the meeting.
