The FINANCIAL — Dublin Airport welcomes Aer Lingus’ announcement to add Liverpool, Murcia, Pisa and Montpellier to its route network from Dublin Airport and to increase frequencies on 22 existing routes for summer 2016.
“This announcement further enhances Dublin Airport’s route network and connectivity by providing greater choice for both business and leisure passengers,” said Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison.
“We are particularly pleased that Aer Lingus will launch flights to Montpellier in Southern France, which is a new route for Dublin Airport,” Mr Harrison added.
“The news is particularly welcome as a recent economic study highlighted the huge importance of Dublin Airport as an engine of growth for the Irish economy,” he said.
The InterVISTAS economic study found that Dublin Airport supports and facilitates 97,400 jobs and is worth €6.9 billion to the Irish economy.
Passenger numbers are up 15% at Dublin Airport this year, making it one of Europe’s fastest growing airports. This is the fifth consecutive year of growth at Dublin Airport, with passenger numbers increasing across all major sectors of the business, according to Dublin Airport.
Dublin Airport, which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year, has flights to 167 destinations. In the first eight months of the year, more than 16.8 million passengers have used Dublin Airport, a 15% increase over the same period last year.
