The FINANCIAL — Georgian Alexander Kvitashvili, who has been residing in the United States for recent 10 years has been appointed, the Georgian Prime Minister Vladimir Gurgenidze said last week. “He is a professional who is returning home and will assist us in Government”, Gurgenidze said.
Georgiy Arveladze, the Economic Minister, is said to leave Government and will return to private business, the Prime Minister said.
The FINANCIAL contacted EastWest Institute, the most recent place of occupation of Alexander Kvitashvili, the Georgian PM’s favourite candidate for Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, in order to get the U.S colleagues’ opinions of the work done by Kvitashvili overseas and his further career building as that of a state official.
“Mr. Kvitashvili was with EastWest Institute for nearly 4 years and was a valued member of the management team. We wish him the very best in his new endeavours,” Mel Washington, Vice President-Chief Operations Officer/Chief Financial Officer, told The FINANCIAL.
“I believe Mr Alexander Kvitashvili would be a wonderful and productive Georgian Minister. All the experience he had with EastWest Institute will assist him to excel to the topmost level of any position,” Gail Manley, Executive Secretary to the President and Founder of EastWest Institute, told The FINANCIAL.
Kvitashvili is the Senior Director of Administration for EastWest Institute. Kvitashvili’s primary responsibilities include coordinating and supervising EWI's support functions, including HR, IT, events and general administration. He is also responsible for developing and maintaining corporate operating policies and procedures and overseeing contact management systems.
“Mr Alexander Kvitashvili was very successful at EastWest Institute. He started as a part-time consultant which resulted in him being a full-time, very important high level part of EWI's staff. He has served as a member of the Management Committee with other VP's in the organization,” claimed Manley.

Prior to joining EWI, Kvitashvili served as UNDP National Expert for Health, Education and Social Sectors, Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth Program in Georgia; President of the Curatio International Foundation in Tbilisi, Georgia; Deputy and Acting Head of Mission UMCOR-Georgia; and Administrative/Finance Officer for UNDP, United Nations Office in Georgia. He served as a consultant to several international organizations in the Balkans, Southern Caucasus, Eastern Europe and the United States.
Kvitashvili speaks English, Russian and Georgian, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from New York University.
“The new cabinet will be formed considering the professionalism and the high qualification of the Ministers. Kvitashvili is a professional who is returning home and will assist the government in implementing the innovative projects targeted at defeating poverty in the country,” declared Lado Gurgenidze, Georgian PM.
