The FINANCIAL — Between July 2010 and June 2011, the travel vertical had a considerable number of B2C ecommerce users in India.
But ecommerce users began making purchases in other categories over that time period, according to the “B2C E-commerce in India” report by online audience measurement platform ViziSense.
B2C ecommerce grew by 10 million users over the 12-month period, reaching 18.1 million in June 2011, ViziSense found. As eMarketer reported, the growth was driven by an increase in the types of goods and services made available online, along with the lower prices that online competition generally brings.
Without a doubt, ecommerce growth has been bolstered by continued, steady growth in the number of people in India with regular access to the internet. In fact, the number of people going online in the country grew from 53 million in July 2010 to 73 million in June 2011, according to ViziSense. eMarketer estimates that in 2012 the number of internet users in India will hit 107.3 million, and climb to 193.8 million by 2016.
