The FINANCIAL — As part of his official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting with Michael Harms, Managing Director of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations and journalists majoring in economy.
The German side expressed its interest in the economic and investment potential of Georgia emphasizing the important role Georgia has acquired in the process of integration with the EU as an economic and transit hub connecting Europe with Asia, according to MFA of Georgia.
Special attention was paid to the successful co-operation between Georgia and Germany. Germany is the largest trade partner of Georgia in the EU area. Germany finds Georgia’s investment climate attractive and is particularly interested in the sectors of transport, infrastructure, energy, renewable energy, ski resorts. Up to 380 German companies operate in Georgia. Special note was taken of the increasing number of German visitors to Georgia reaching 80 thousand for 2015-2016.
The sides spoke about the ongoing activities aimed at the further development of economic relations between the two countries, including joint business forums and training courses for Georgian entrepreneurs. The delegation of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and of the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry plan their visits to Georgia.
The Managing Director of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations expressed his interest to pay a visit to Georgia.
