The FINANCIAL — The Eiffel Tower, which has become a global icon of France, will be lit up with colors of Turkish flag under the ongoing "Season of Turkey" activities in France for five days beginning from October 6.
The Paris Municipality decided to make a gesture to President Abdullah Gül during his visit to Paris by lighting up the tower with colors of Turkish flag (red and white) from October 6 to October 11.
"Turkish President Gül will pay a state visit to France on October 7 to attend opening of the exhibition "İstanbul through the Ages" at Grand Palais," Today's Zaman says.
A new lightning system will be used.
"Season of Turkey" activities began with a performance of the Anatolian Fire dance group in front of the Eiffel tower in July.
The Eiffel Tower, which is the tallest building in Paris and the second in France behind the Millau Viaduct, is one of the most visited monuments in the world with more than six million people ascending it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World's Fair.
