The FINANCIAL — The Foreign Minister of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze hosted on April 24 his Estonian colleague Sven Mikser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where after the meeting at an extended format, a joint press conference was held.
As the Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze has stated, during their meeting, the Ministers discussed the steps Russian Federation has taken towards the annexation of the occupied regions of Georgia – Abkhazian an Tskhinvali/South Ossetia regions, the situation in the occupied territories in terms of human rights and the difficulties the local population face as the result of the wire fences built by Russia, according to MFA of Georgia.
„Estonia is one of the signified supporter of the sovereignty and territorial integrity, European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our country on an international arena. Estonia has definitely proven more than once a strong commitment and support for Georgia in this regard. I would like to take this opportunity and thank our friendly nation for the political support and solidarity expressed towards Georgia,” – stated Mikheil Janelidze.
On a joint press conference the head of Georgian Foreign Ministry roughly talked about Estonia’s strong support in Georgia’s European integration path. Minister said that this year is very significant and special for Estonia, as the country becomes the President of the Council of the European Union starting from the 1st of July. According to Mikheil Janelidze, precisely the issues of Georgia’s European integration and the cooperation during the Estonian Presidency were one of the topics discussed at the meeting with his colleague.
“I am glad, that during Estonia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, one of the priorities will be specifically the cooperation between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries. Exactly during the Estonian Presidency, the fifth Eastern Partnership Summit will be held. We have discussed the Summit’s preparatory issues, which is an important event and determines future prospects for cooperation with the partner countries” – Mikheil Janelidze.
Within the frameworks of his visit to Georgia, the Estonian Foreign Minister will hold meetings with the President, Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia. Estonian Foreign Minister will also visit the village of Khurvaleti.
