The FINANCIAL — Food security and the development of nutrition policy were discussed during an international conference that ended in the Georgian capital Tbilisi on June 16.
The event, organised in the framework of an EU-funded project on improving regional food security through national strategies and smallholder production in the South Caucasus, gathered European, regional and Georgian experts to overview international models on developing inclusive policies and programmes for smallholder farmers, as well as local approaches to developing healthy nutrition and food systems, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
The four-year EU project has been implemented by Oxfam since 2013. Central to the project is the publication of gender sensitive food security and nutrition strategies in the South Caucasus. Food security is an important part of the agricultural policy framework and is an important part of social and economic policies that guarantee local food production and people’s access to healthy and diverse food, the EU Delegation to Georgia press release said.
