The FINANCIAL — The Delegation of the European Union to Georgia and the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) awarded the six winners of the EU Prize for Journalism on 14 February.
This year’s EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism was awarded to Gvantsa Doluashvili for her article entitled ‘Continuous connection’, which was published by JAM News, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
“This award means a lot to me and it encourages me to continue my work with even greater vigour,” Ms Doluashvili told the Head of EUMM Kestutis Jankauskas as he congratulated her on the achievement. Ms Doluashvili will participate in a one-month fellowship at the headquarters of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in London.
“Through this award, the EUMM wants to encourage reporting that brings separated communities together and shows the privilege of peace,” said Mr Jankauskas in his opening speech at the award ceremony. “Additionally, we want to single out the kind of reporting that breaks from a simplistic, bipolar interpretation of events, and shores up the divide between the communities rather than drawing them further apart.”
The EU Prize for Journalism is the first of its kind in Georgia, recognising works that contribute to promoting a better understanding of the values of the European Union and reflect high standards of journalistic ethics and professionalism.
