The FINANCIAL — Ways to report disaster loss data to monitor the reduction of the impact of disasters on national economy will be discussed on 24-25 July at a regional workshop organised by the EU-funded Programme on Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural and Man-made Disasters in the Eastern Partnership Countries.
The workshop will be attended by civil protection experts from the Programme’s partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Experts from the Association of French Insurance for Natural Risk Knowledge and Reduction, as well as from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, will share their knowledge and experience with colleagues from the Eastern Neighbourhood.
The aim of the workshop is to share good practices on DLD collection and processing from the EU Member States and the achievements of partner countries in improving their national DLD systems, and set the base for a common regional roadmap. During the practical sessions, the participants will discuss how DLD can be used for disaster risk assessment and, more specifically, for improving the description of risk scenarios.
The EU-funded PPRD East programme was designed to contribute to the peace, stability, security and prosperity of the EU’s Eastern Partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. It also aims to protect the environment, population, cultural heritage, resources and infrastructure of the region by strengthening the countries’ resilience, preparedness and response to man-made disasters and disasters caused by natural hazards.
Now in its second phase, the PPRD East 2 programme facilitates the strengthening of disaster risk management capacities at national level in the six countries. It also works to strengthen regional cooperation among the partner countries, and brings the countries progressively closer to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
