The FINANCIAL — A series of meetings and a workshop on inter-municipal cooperation for solid waste management took place in the Georgian cities of Batumi and Keda, Adjara region, in September.
Organised within the joint EU/Council of Europe programme on strengthening institutional frameworks for local governance, the events served to discuss three technical scenarios for the material, personnel and financial requirements of the waste management service for the three municipalities of Adjara.
Among the participants were representatives from the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and the Adjaran government (Ministry of Finance and Economy), local stakeholders and Council of Europe experts, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
Following discussions, the participants agreed on ways of more efficient waste management in some municipalities and discussed the possibility of outsourcing certain services to a private company at a later stage.
