The FINANCIAL — Medical and non-medical personnel of the Georgian prison system have completed a training programme on managing inmates with mental health problems.
The programme was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe/EU Partnership for Good Governance Project “Human Rights and Healthcare in Prisons and Other Closed Institutions in Georgia II”.
Participants learnt about different mental health-related issues, including assessment and treatment approaches, medical examination upon admission to prison, psychiatric care and treatment plans, and therapeutic and rehabilitative psychosocial activities in prisons, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
The aim of the training programme was to help prison staff better understand mental health problems and needs of prisoners and equip them with the knowledge and skills to deal more effectively with these issues.
