The FINANCIAL — The European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) on Wednesday facilitated the latest regular meeting under the Incident Prevention Response Mechanism (IPRM), to discuss the ongoing security situation along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL), as well as the issue of people currently in detention.
The meeting took place in the village of Ergneti on the South Ossetia ABL, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
There were discussions regarding crossings of the ABL, as well as the impact of ‘borderisation’ on people living along the ABL. The issue of freedom of movement in the context of the forthcoming elections in Georgia was also discussed.
Participants also pledged their commitment to early notification of military exercises in the vicinity of the border.
The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) is an unarmed civilian monitoring mission of the European Union, deployed in September 2008 following the EU-mediated Six Point Agreement, which ended the August 2008 war. The EUMM aims to ensure that there is no return to hostilities, to facilitate the resumption of a safe and normal life for the local communities living on both sides of the border with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, to build confidence among the conflict parties and to inform EU policy in Georgia and the wider region.
