The FINANCIAL — The “Promoting Integration of Syrian Armenians” (PISA) project, a joint project of the European Union and the Armenian Red Cross, officially ended on 26 April.
The project has successfully established the right path for economic and socio-cultural integration of Syrian Armenians in the regions of Yerevan, Shirak, Lori, Kotayk, Aragatsotn, Ararat and Armavir, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
Over the course of the project, 81 people have received training in tools to help generate income, such as cooking and car mechanics. Moreover, more than 100 people have passed language courses in Armenian, Russian and English. Beyond the vocational and language training, the project has also facilitated a network for Syrian Armenians and potential employers through initiatives such as a job portal.
As a result of the Syrian conflict, over 13,000 Syrian Armenians have fled to live in Armenia. Syrian Armenian families currently residing in Armenia were supported by the economic component of the project, while over 1,000 schoolchildren were involved in educational and integration activities.
The EU remains committed to assisting Syrian Armenians in their integration into Armenian society.
