The FINANCIAL — A group of 63 Azerbaijani judge candidates have visited the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg as part of the EU-supported programme to assist the preparatory training phase of the judicial selection process at the Academy of Justice of Azerbaijan.
Two study visits took place in June to provide the judge candidates with a closer insight into the functioning of the ECHR, enabling them to better understand the link between the ECHR on an international level and their own future efforts in terms of protection of human rights at national level, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
During the visit, participants listened to presentations on various ECHR topics from judges and staff of the court’s registry. Representatives of the Secretariat also informed the group about the functioning of other Council of Europe bodies.
The activities were organised in the framework of the project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Azerbaijan”. The project is part of the Partnership for Good Governance for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus and is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
