The FINANCIAL — The security of Ukrainian courts was the subject of an extensive roundtable discussion on 27 September, organised by the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM).
Dutch expert Cees Tax, who as National Security Officer at the Council for the Judiciary in the Netherlands has overall responsibility for the security of Dutch courts, presented his findings. Tax spent the past six months analysing the court security situation in Ukraine and concluded that the current security framework for courts is inadequate, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
Among other proposals, his report highlights the need to introduce baggage-scanning equipment and updated alarm systems at courts. According to the EUAM press release, one of the report’s main recommendations is that the specialised court security service, which is due to be created in the country, should have staff trained in prevention-oriented ways in order to deal with potential threats and risk awareness.
As part of the EUAM-funded project, Tax visited seven courts of different levels in Kyiv, Lviv and Kharkiv.
