The FINANCIAL — The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has introduced the Constitution draft, developed in cooperation with the opposition to the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee representatives and presented them his views on the fundamental principles of the constitutional reform.
The meeting held at the Presidential Palace has also been attended by the Head of the Administration Mr. Giorgi Abashishvili and the President’s advisors. The parties have discussed the EU-Georgia cooperation, Georgia’s European integration process and the country’s progress in this process, according to the Administration of the President of Georgia.
According to the Parliamentary Secretary of the President Ms. Ana Dolidze, it is important for the EU, as the strongest partner of Georgia to be informed about all major political events that are taking place in the country. The EU delegation members have shown interest in the President’s view on the constitutional amendments and Afghan Mukhtarli’s case.
According to the Chair of the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee Mr. Sajjad Karim, the President has briefed the delegation members on the ongoing dynamics of the discussion and process which is underway in Georgia at this moment in time.
“From the European Parliament’s perspective, we remain committed to supporting the Venice Commission and its findings and look forward to a solution that actually acts in the interests of all Georgians, regardless of what political persuasion they may hold and of course, the President through his office has a very real role to play in bringing about that as a conclusion,” stated Mr. Karim.
