The FINANCIAL — European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso said talks with the Ukraine over a free trade agreement could begin in a matter of weeks, according to Thompson Financial.
Speaking here after a meeting with Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Barroso said negotiations can begin after the World Trade Organisation (WTO) gives the green light to Ukraine accession to the body.
"It is a question of weeks," he said.
The EU is the Ukraine`s largest trading partner and its biggest market.
Speaking to reporters, Tymoshenko said she does not want use the Ukraine`s entry into the WTO to put pressure on Russia.
Tymoshenko said entry into the WTO is a good tool for Ukraine`s integration into the international community and should not be used to put pressure on any country.
