The FINANCIAL — ExxonMobil congratulated Qatar on becoming the world’s largest producer of liquefied natural gas at a ceremony on December 13 marking the production capacity milestone of 77 million tones per annum (MTA).
The event was celebrated in Ras Laffan Industrial City at a ceremony under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar and His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah the Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry. Also in attendance were Rex W. Tillerson, chairman and chief executive officer of Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM), ministers, senior government officials and delegations from Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and RasGas.
“I would personally like to congratulate both His Highness the Emir and His Excellency Minister Al Attiyah for this incredible achievement,” said Tillerson. “Qatar’s visionary leadership and the remarkable story of its natural gas development are truly an inspiration. We are honored to be part of this major accomplishment.”
ExxonMobil is a participant in 12 of Qatar’s 14 LNG projects, including two Qatargas joint ventures (QG1 and QG2) and three RasGas joint ventures (RL1, RL2 and RL3). ExxonMobil also helped develop the newest classes of LNG carriers with the 210,000 cubic meter capacity Q-Flex ships and the 265,000 cubic meter Q-Max vessels which carry LNG to receiving terminals jointly developed by Qatar and ExxonMobil in the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States, and to markets around the globe.
Combining the unique strengths of Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil in a model partnership enabled the development of innovative solutions resulting in the extremely successful LNG business Qatar has today.
ExxonMobil delivered advanced technologies, strong project execution and economies of scale to reduce the cost of producing and transporting LNG, thereby extending the ability of Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and RasGas to help meet energy requirements around the world.
