The rate of Facebook users is lower in Azerbaijan and Armenia. The total number of users in these two countries combined is 189,560; 2 times less than in Georgia. In Azerbaijan 139,660 are Facebook users and in Armenia – 49,900
Facebook is the number one social network in Georgia already having beaten odnoklassniki.ru, the popular Russian social network and google.com.
At present, both social networks offer advertising through social networks. However Georgian companies that are actively advertising through odnoklassniki.ru have still not started advertising through Facebook.
Facebook offers a variety of services for advertising, the most common way to promote a company, person, or organization is to create a fan page, or group which is absolutely free of charge. Since January 2010 companies in Georgia are actively registering facebook pages. Most popular way to be promoted on global social network is to register standard user page, adding as much friends as permitted by the website. This number must not exceed 5 000.
Many companies are posting commercial offers, photos of new products or other relevant information daily. This should keep their pages alive. But experts advise not to overload the network with too frequent posts, or you can be blocked by your friends.
What’s more if you would like to advertise through Facebook there are two types of advertising provided by the social network.
Individuals can bid for Pay for Click (CPC) or Pay for Views (CPM), this depends on the strategy the company is pursuing through advertising.
If the business wants to attract and increase the number of the company’s web-page users, it should concentrate on use of CPC. The company will pay each time a user actually clicks on the ad that is directly linked to the company’s web-page.
The minimum price for CPC advertising is from 0.01 USD. However, if the targeting changes the price could potentially increase.
When we submitted a bid for advertising on Facebook the price for one click appeared to be 0.17 USD, however when we changed and specified the target market in more detail the price grew to 0.21 USD.
To calculate the daily budget a business wishes to spend, it has to multiply the number of desired clicks by price.
For Georgian companies this is quite expensive. If we consider the case of a company that pays 0.20 USD per click, for 100 clicks a business has to pay 20 USD, for 500 clicks – 100 USD, for 2,000 clicks – 400 USD, for 10,000 clicks – 2,000 USD.
There will be very few companies in Georgia actually willing to spend 400 USD a day to advertise on Facebook for visits to their web-page.
For those with a limited budget, Facebook provides the opportunity to set a daily budget for advertising. The minimum daily budget is from 1 USD. After the daily budget is spent, the ads will stop running until the next day.
Pay for Views (CPM) is another form of advertising on Facebook, this is cost per 1,000 impressions. Companies that choose CPM advertising are concentrating on raising public-awareness of their brand or company.
The minimum price for CPM is 0.02 USD for ad space.
Payment for advertising is via credit cards and co-branded debit cards (Visa or Mastercard and American Express, Discover and JCB for certain currencies). Moreover, payments can be paid in 15 types of currencies including: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD, TRY, VEF, COP, NOK, SEK, DKK, CLP, HKD, CHF.
