The FINANCIAL — Despite the tense economical situation, Georgian night clubs are going to liven things up for New Year’s Eve. G.U.R.U, Zen and Cubic have invited famous DJs from abroad and have already started selling tickets that are much more expensive than even some of the most famous clubs in Las Vegas.
“G.U.R.U VIP tickets with extra accommodation will cost GEL 300. The price of an ordinary ticket will be GEL 200,” club Manager Nugzar Chkhetia told The FINANCIAL. “It will be the first European New Year celebration in Georgia and Georgians certainly won’t be disappointed if they visit us,” Chkhetia says.
Cubic is selling New Year tickets for GEL 150. “Festive food will be available for our visitors and they will be able to take part in competitions such as, the fastest drinking of Tequila,” Irinka Khomasuridze declared.
According to Baltimoresun, tickets for DJ Lisa Shaw and DJ Lovegrove that should be one of the best house-music parties in Baltimor cost USD 35 for the evening. “If you want dinner and a guaranteed table, it will come to USD 75.”
Nightclubs.com says that one of the most popular nightclubs in Las Vegas, Drais, which is still the best after hours club in the world nearly 10 years after its opening, will on New Year’s Eve be offering its guests prices starting at USD 60 for ladies, USD 65 for gents.
But Georgian clubs say they spend much more on inviting famous DJs from abroad.
Newly opened Georgian night club G.U.R.U, which has already become popular among Georgian citizens and maintains its authority in leading Georgian clubs, has planned some special events for the season.
“On 31 December, we have invited DJ Blaze from America, who is also a vocalist. Our guests will be able to listen to DJ Kate Brown (vocalist), and DJ Dave Jones from England will try to entertain G.U.R.U guests too. A ‘Fire Show’ will also be performed by G.U.R.U’s barmen,” Nugzar Chkhetia, Manager of G.U.R.U club, declared.
“The average cost for bringing these 3 DJs is about USD 35-40,000, all of them are very popular. DJ Blaze and Kate Brown are among the leading American DJs. Dave Jones is a well known British DJ and G.U.R.U guests will enjoy listening to them.”
According to DJ Blaze’s personal website DJBlazenyc.com the Latin culture in the entertainment industry is booming and this makes DJ Blaze all the more marketable. DJ Blaze mixes an ultra chic blend of hip-hop, R&B, reggae, rock, house, and classics.
According to the Club Hollywood website, Dave Jones is one of the most popular DJs. Dave Jones is a London-based DJ and promoter currently taking great strides in establishing himself within the global House Music scene.
“This New Year many interesting events are going to be held at different Georgian clubs and this is really promising,” Sopo Gordadze, Service Manager of club Zen, told The FINANCIAL.
“On Christmas Eve specially invited DJ Da Sanlounge will play with well known Georgian DJ Takho. Last year we also had a foreign DJ in the club who was playing very interesting music, people were very happy,” Sopo Gordadze declared.
“In club Cubic a special show event is going to be held. Show ballet LNB, a presentation of the new model agency, special contests involving guests, and DJ Kenzo – the famous Georgian DJ – will all be happening,” said Irina Khomasuridze, PR Manager of club Cubic.
As Khomasuridze mentioned, DJ Kenzo will be paid USD 1,000 for the New Year event.
Both clubs Cubic and Zen have a special age limit. People under the age of 21 aren’t able to get inside. “We have very strict face control, teenagers have no possibility to enter our club,” Khomasuridze declared.
“Our customers belong to more elite segments of the population. Businessmen are our most frequent guests. We do have an age limit so that people under 21 can’t visit our club. This Christmas event isn’t going to be an exception and only 21s and up can have fun at Zen,” Sopo Gordadze said.
“Exclusively, before the New Year, we are going to hold an event named DE Mode. On this evening every guest should be dressed out of fashion. We really think that this kind of event will be exceptional and attractive for our guests as these kinds of events are rare for Georgian clubs,” Gordadze told The FINANCIAL.
“Prices for the New Year event in Cubic will be normal and acceptable, guests won’t be disappointed by our service,” Gordadze said.
Many clubbers told The FINANCIAL that they are keen on going to Tbilisi clubs, but that the prices are the main conditioning factor for them. Others say that they prefer to celebrate the New Year and Christmas at home with their family members.
“I’m a clubber and I’d visit G.U.R.U club with great pleasure, but the ticket price is not acceptable for me as it is actually very expensive. I’ll celebrate this New Year in one of my friends’ houses,” George, 23, said.
Sopo Balavadze, who works for Bank of Georgia says she prefers being somewhere where it snows, “For example in Gudauri or Bakuriani. I enjoy being with my friends on New Year’s Eve, it’s my favourite thing.”
“My whole family and I always try to celebrate the New Year together at home. I don’t really like to go to clubs and together with my family members I have quite a good time,” Tata Shavdia, Bank Republic, says.
The TBC bank management team will celebrate the New Year in TBC’s Vake branch. “We have a prize draw of GEL 1,000,000,” Maia Dzirkvelishvili, PR Manager of TBC Bank, told The FINANCIAL. “I like to celebrate Christmas with my family at home and after so finishing this prize draw I’ll go straightly home.”
“I’m planning to celebrate this New Year in club Two Sides. For the last two years I have celebrated New Year’s Eve with my closest friends, but at 12 o’clock I’m always at home with my family members,” Natia Cholokashvili, Teliani Valley, says.
Anyway this New Year doesn’t look like it’ll be boring one for the Georgian nightclubs.
“If you want to be sure to experience a great New Year then you should definitely come and visit us,” Sopo Gordadze, Zeni, suggests.
“There aren’t many famous nightclubs in Georgia, but among the famous ones we still keep the leading positions. On this New Year’s Eve our visitors will be fully satisfied by our accommodation,” Irinka Khomasuridze, Cubic says.
Some Georgian universities are having their own New Year parties in different Georgian clubs. The European School of Management (ESM) Tbilisi, is going to have a New Year party in the club Night Office on the 29 December.
“The evening will be opened by the famous Georgian group 33a, then a band from the famous bar “Agora” will perform and after midnight club music will be played by 2 Georgian DJs. There will be a lot of games for fun and a lottery for all the guests to participate in. The entrance price is GEL 90,” Tatia Kharshiladze, Organizer of the party and a student of ESM, told The FINANCIAL.
Unlike Georgian nightclubs 5 star hotels in Georgia have decided to say NO to holding any special celebrations.
“Our management doesn’t plan to hold any kind of event this New Year. Because of the economical crisis, the situation is not really stable and this is one of the main reasons why we won’t have any event this New Year. Last year we had a New Year celebrating event in the hall of the American pub Slimmers. People were able to listen to live music and have drinks and cocktails there. Of course there are some private events being held this New Year, but we are not authorized to name the organizers of the events,” Rusiko Giashvili, Conference and Banquet Sales Manager of hotel Sheraton Metechi Palace, declared.
“This year no event has been planned for December 31, the same as last year when we didn’t have a party. We will continue our usual accommodation services and people can visit us while Ginger Grand House continues to offer them many sorts of chocolate. They may also listen to music and drink Glintwein, enjoy the Christmas spirit,” Irma Tabatadze, Marketing Coordinator of Tbilisi Marriott Hotel and Courtyard by Marriott Tbilisi, said.
