The FINANCIAL — ‘Free style’ is booming in the fashion trends of 2011 in Georgia as more attention is being paid to colour variety, say famous Georgian designers. Blue is considered the trendiest colour for next year.
According to most Georgian designers there is usually one fashion trend in Georgia at any time, which everyone follows meaning individualism is lost. Designers say their collections offer people the most stylish and trendy, as well as unique clothes for every season.
“The colour blue will dominate next year out of the most stylish colours. I myself always try to offer people something different and unusual. I have even used spoons to decorate my clothes and collection with, which will be very popular next year. I offer people shoes made from the material tulle, with great shapes in my 2011 collection,” designer Bicholla said.
“Tender and womanly silhouettes are the major characteristic of the autumn-winter collection of 2011,” declared Avtandil Tskhvitinidze, one of the most famous Georgian designers.
“Free wide blazers will be in style in the autumn-winter period of 2011. Blazers with high shoulders will not be active during that period. Oversized boyfriend jackets are in fashion. However, under such blazers there should be worn a feminine chiffon or silk dress. Moreover, tight skirts and shoes with bows are very fashionable too,” Tskvitinidze added.
According to Tskvitinidze for the spring-summer collection there will be lots of light material and free silhouettes. However, the waist should be accented by a thin leather belt. 14 centimetre high shoes are still on trend, however, many designers are now offering ballet pumps, which are flat.
“This year we have quite interesting fashion trends and there will be a wide variety of styles to choose from. Trouser styles will be quite diverse, however flares will dominate slightly more this year. The length of dresses has shortened. This year we have a maximum or minimum length, the middle is not in style,” said Datuna Sulikashvili, famous Georgian designer.
Sulikashvili says that while designing dresses he does not consider any trend but creates what he likes the most. “I believe that to dress with taste and know what to wear in different situations is enough to look stylish,” Sulikashvili added.
According to Sulikashvili the accent will be on the colour blue in the fall-winter season of 2011. Moreover, the colour black remains unchangeable, and gold, red and cream colours will also be quite popular. As for the spring-summer season the trend is very colourful and diverse.
“It is quite difficult to make a very colourful dress and at the same time make it with taste, so the task is always risky,” declared Sulikashvili.
“The colour scheme for the season is grey, black and cream. Cream has never been so popular before and many designers have saturated their collections with it,” said Tskvitinidze.
“As for spring-summer, white as well as cream are quite active and also a gradation of grey and blue are in style. Floral materials are also being used by many designers,” Tskvitinidze added.
As for the materials, in the fall-winter collection what will be popular is silk, wool and cashmere as well as stockinet. For spring-summer there will be chiffon, silk, and natural cotton materials.
Sulikashvili declares that of the materials most used are silk and velvet. Furthermore a priority is addressed to detail, such as a stone or brooch detail on dresses.
“I believe that the two most important accessories are a bag and shoes. There is a wide variety of choice among present fashion so all bag sizes are in style. Out of jewellery beads will be on trend which fits well with the clothing styles. Moreover, bracelets are massively in fashion,” Sulikashvili added.
Tskvitinidze believes that Georgian fashion follows European fashion trends. Georgians dress in a modern way and usually look good at any occasion.
However Sulikashvili declares that for Georgians it is quite difficult to follow European fashion trends as they require a lot of finances.
“I believe that there are only a handful of individuals in the country who have the opportunity and luxury to follow European fashion and styles, to dress in big brand clothing and follow the latest trends,” Sulikashvili declared.
“I believe we are far away from the European style, as when I visit Paris and other cities I see that there are big differences in the trends between our countries. Individualism is expressed more in those cities, which I like and I have not seen very much of there, as opposed to in Europe where each person expresses their individuality through interesting choices in clothing. However, in Georgia, there is essentially one trend at any given time which everyone follows and so individualism is lost,” Sulikashvili added.
